I have officially moved to Calgary, for the coming months. It is a bit daunting moving to a new city, but I’m enjoying it so far. It is especially nice to drive only 20 minutes to my aerials classes, rather than 1 1/2 hours from Rosebud or 3 hours from Edmonton (6 hours total with the back and forth.
Speaking of aerials, I am taking two classes this time around Aerial Silks level 1, and a Beginner Balance and Flexibility class. Both are challenging, but I have seen some small victories in each. I’m tackling my latent fear of going straight vertical in a handstand, still a long way off from being able to hold it for any length of time but I’ll keep working on it. and today in my silks class I managed to get both feet into a foot lock while in the air rather than cheating and standing on the ground. It is a lot harder than it sounds. But that is one of the reasons I chose to focus on Silks right now even though I like Aerial Hoop a bit more. Silks require more strength and endurance, so if I challenge myself with this now, and develop the skills needed then I’ll be more capable all around.
First rehearsal for Iolanthe was on Sunday, and I was very happy that I felt prepared and capable. We worked on the act 1 and 2 finales…Ha-ha seems a bit odd to start at the end. I was glad though, some of the most challenging music was in those songs and I was quite nervous about working on them. We started slow and while we haven’t reached performance tempo yet I’m feeling much more confident. Don’t forget to mark it in your calendars… Iolanthe will be playing, at the Pumphouse Theatre, April 28-May 13 2017.
The biggest challenge I am facing right now is finding a job. I’ve sent out my applications and resumes. The waiting game has begun, waiting and hoping to hear back from one of them. And of course, searching out more options to pass the time and increase my chances.
Keep checking back to hear more about what I’m up to.
